Committees

Are you a young lawyer interested in joining the section or a section committee? Read below to find out more about each committee.

Awards & Grants: This committee applies for grants and manages award applications through local and state bar associations, such as the Outstanding Young Lawyer Award for the LBA Young Lawyers Section.
 
CLE: This committee is responsible for planning and organizing CLEs for young lawyers throughout the year. Committee members work with the LBA office staff to reserve locations, speakers, and sponsorships. They also work closely with the Social Committee.
 
Community Service & Outreach: This committee is responsible for organizing community fundraising efforts throughout the year. This specifically includes the Holiday Giving Project, where one non-profit organization is chosen to receive donations in the form of funds or items.
 
Clay Shoot: This committee is responsible for the annual Shoot for Justice Clay Shoot held in October, which is a tournament to raise funds for the Lafayette Bar Foundation and its pro bono programs. Committee members are responsible for soliciting donations, sponsors, teams, and event-set up.
 
Golf: This committee is responsible for the annual Birdie with the Bar Golf Tournament held in March, which is a tournament to raise funds for the Lafayette Bar Foundation and its pro bono programs. Committee members are responsible for soliciting donations, sponsors, teams, and event-set up.
 
Health & Wellness: This committee is responsible for organizing events to raise awareness for and improve the overall mental and physical health of attorneys. These take place bi-monthly and include events such as running a 5K, a cycle class, CLE on managing health and wellness, etc.
 
Historian: This committee is responsible for maintaining the history and integrity of the Young Lawyers Section.
 
Law Day: Based on the LSBA’s Law Week, this event takes place in the spring and focuses on encouraging young students who are considering a career in the legal field. Such events may include a Q&A session over lunch with young attorneys giving their advice and expertise on what it takes to be an attorney or sharing stories as they journeyed through law school.
 
Mock Trial: Mock Trial is held every February and consists of mock trial teams from different high schools competing against one another in a mock trial setting. Two winners are established and move on to the state level. This is held at the Federal Courthouse.
 
Membership/Mentor: This committee is responsible for engaging new young lawyers and news members of the Young Lawyers Section, specifically during Red Mass and Court Opening in January.
 
Social: This committee is responsible for organizing socials during each season of the year (spring, summer, fall and winter). This includes soliciting sponsorships, making reservations, and promoting the event.
 
Tennis: This committee is responsible for the annual Tennis Tournament, to be held in November at Red Lerille’s Racquet & Health Club. This is a fundraiser for the Young Lawyers Section. Committee members are responsible for soliciting donations, sponsors, teams, and event-set up.
