Pro Bono Week

National Pro Bono Week will be October 21-27, 2018 in Acadiana. We are excited to raise awareness for pro bono legal services, such as the ones provided by the Lafayette Bar Foundation throughout the year.

Stay up-to-date on all of the programs that will be available during National Pro Bono Week and the entire month of October. If you need pro bono services, the following programs will be available to you during this week. Pro Bono Events

October 22
"Geaux Casual for Pro Bono" Fundraiser
Lafayette Bar Foundation will host a "Geaux Casual for Pro Bono" fundraiser on October 22nd. Any firm or office who wishes to participate can do so by calling the Lafayette Bar office at 337-237-4700. Once the firm or office has contacted the Lafayette Bar, they will receive a fundraising packet, which includes posters, a collection envelope, and stickers. On October 22nd (or whatever day is best for your office) you will collect $5 from your employees, allowing them to wear jeans on Monday along with their sticker that says "I've gone casual for pro bono!" The Lafayette Bar will collect all funds the following day and will go towards funding for all Foundation pro bono programs. For questions or to request a packet, contact or call 337-237-4700.

October 23

H.E.L.P. Program at the Msgr. Sigur Center | 8:30-9:30a

 The H.E.L.P. (Homeless Experience Legal Protection) Program takes place all year. This program assists the area homeless individuals with obtaining certified copies of birth certificates. These documents help to prove identity when trying to find shelter or applying for jobs. No appointment necessary and available to the public.
Attorney Volunteer Information: Attorneys can volunteer by assisting with the execution of necessary paperwork.

October 24
Lawyers in Libraries at the Lafayette Public Library Main Branch | 9:00-11:00a
 Similiar to Counsel on Call, this ask-a-lawyer program will give you the chance to speak to a lawyer for 15 minutes during a free consultation. They will be able to offer legal advice on a civil matter (divorce, custody, etc.) but will not represent you in court.
How To Attend: You must RSVP to the Lafayette Public Library Main Branch to reserve a 15-min timeslot. CALL 337-261-5787 to save your spot!

H.E.L.P. Program at the Emily House

 This event is only for residents of The Emily House by Catholic Charities of Acadiana. 
Attorney Volunteer Information: Attorneys can volunteer by assisting with the execution of necessary paperwork.

October 25

Free CLE for Attorneys | 12:00-1:00p
 The Lafayette Bar Foundation will be hosting a CLE presented by Tyler Technologies and the Lafayette Parish Clerk of Court's Office, who will offer training on the new E-Filing system. Lunch will begin at 11:30a followed by the CLE at noon.
How To Attend: Free for any attorney willing to take a pro bono case within 90 days of the CLE (member, non-member, or walk-in) | Otherwise, cost will be $35 per member, $55 per non-member, walk-ins will pay an additional $10, no refunds.

Free Legal Seminar: Tenant Rights at the Lafayette Bar Office | 5:30-6:30p
 An attorney will be presenting on tenant rights when leasing from a private landlord, including terms of the lease, agreement on rent, communicating with landlord, and specific provisions such as utilities, repairs, and termination. They will also be available to answer your questions.
How To Attend: No cost to attend, but RSVP to the Lafayette Bar Foundation by calling 337-237-4700 and press 5.

Champions of Justice Awards

About: We will be honoring attorneys who have taken pro bono cases or been active in the Foundation's pro bono programs throughout the past year during the Champions of Justice Breakfast.
