Judge Michelle Breaux is seeking a law clerk to serve a one or two-year term (with two years being preferable) beginning in August 2021. Judge Breaux’s main areas of focus are civil and juvenile matters (delinquency, truancy, traffic, and drug court). The duties of the clerk include, but are not limited to, organizing the docket for rule days; preparing bench memorandums; drafting jury instructions; drafting judgments; acting as a go between for parties and the court; legal research and writing; analyzing pleadings; and whatever else the court may need.
In additionally to preparing the court prior to rule days, it is the responsibility of the clerk to conduct Zoom conferences for civil hearings and Juvenile 72-Hour Probable Cause Hearings. The clerk will need to learn the filing system for Lafayette and Vermilion Parishes. Within the system, the clerk will review filings and determine if they are suitable for Judge Breaux to sign.
