Counsel on Call Program

This program does not, in any way, replace the professional services that can be provided by hiring an attorney. In fact, should you have the means to hire an attorney, we strongly suggest you do so. A list of attorneys available for hire can be found on our website: https://www.lafayettebar.org/find_a_lawyer.

Every Friday during operating hours, the Lafayette Bar Foundation hosts the Counsel on Call program. During this program, members of the community who do not have the means necessary to hire an attorney are able to speak with an attorney. The attorney is able to provide legal guidance on civil matters during a free 15-minute consultation. Participants are advised and encouraged prior to their consultation to seek legal assistance through a hired attorney.

  • Every Friday (excluding holidays) from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM
  • Takes place in the Law Library within the Lafayette Bar office (2607 Johnston Street, Lafayette, LA 70503)
  • Limited to participating in the program once a month (every four weeks)
  • You must be here in person to speak to an attorney, although you may send someone on your behalf.
  • Attorneys will see first 8-12 people on a first come, first serve basis
  • You are not required to bring documentation, but it may be helpful.
  • You will be required to sign a disclaimer before participating.

If you are an attorney who wishes to volunteer for Counsel on Call, please call the LBA staff at (337) 237-4700.
