Get to know LBA Member William Keaty IIAbout William A. Keaty II
William “Will” A. Keaty II grew up in Lafayette, Louisiana, but attended high school just outside of Washington D.C. and college in New England. After college, he lived in Colorado during his early 30's. Will graduated with a B.S. in Psychology from Boston College and received his J.D. from Southern University Law Center. He currently mostly practices Family Law within his firm, Keaty & Tilly, Attorneys at Law, however his other areas of practice also include Estate Planning and Successions and some Personal Injury.
He was inspired to enter the legal field after observing his mother, Hon. Phyllis Keaty, in her courtroom when he was a child. “I used to sit in my mom's, Hon. Phyllis Keaty, courtroom watching attorneys helping and making a difference in their client's lives and I wanted to do that. So, I went to Law School and took the Bar Exam so I could practice being a Family Law Attorney.” Others who have inspired him during his career include Judge Paul deMahy, for whom Will clerked for over a two-year period, and Gay Babin, who helped him start his practice and still helps him to this day.
When he is not in the office, Will enjoys bring in the woods, at his camp, or in the blind. Spoken like a true outdoorsman, he says that the three things he cannot live without are “water, food, and a good knife.” You may be surprised to know that six months prior to entering law school, he lived in a camper trailer with his brother-in-law in Pas Christian, Mississippi, rebuilding the community after Hurricane Katrina.
