Meet Geralyn Siefker, LBA Member

Geralyn is a member of the Lafayette Bar Association and is heavily involved in Lafayette Bar Foundation pro bono programs. She is currently the staff attorney for Faith House at the Family Justice Center of Acadiana and handles family law matters for survivors of domestic violence.

Originally from Baton Rouge, Louisiana she attended high school at St. Joseph's Academy. She graduated from Louisiana State University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a minor in History. She then graduated from Loyola University New Orleans College of Law in 2012 with a certificate of studies in Civil Law and International Law. From the time she attended St. Joseph's Academy, Siefker knew she wanted to be an attorney: “Even today, women struggle to have a voice in this world, and I wanted to be that voice for those women.”

As a new lawyer starting out five years ago in a new town, the family law community in Lafayette along with family court was, and still is, a great mentor to her. To be able to learn from such experienced Judges and other attorneys in the community is a blessing to her. She continues to learn so much every day, and has a great example of professionalism right here in Lafayette with the Judges and attorneys she encounters daily.

When she is not in the office, she is spending her time with her husband, Danny, and her girls, Eleanor and Mary-Margaret. She says it is busy, but always exciting. She is a huge fan of college sports, particularly college football, baseball, and softball and any LSU team. Her love of sports doesn't stop there, as she is a huge softball fan and played competitive fast pitch softball until she started college. In addition to sports, Siefker really enjoys movies. Although she does not have much time to see new movies, she is a big fan of the Star Wars movies.

Three things Geralyn cannot live without:
  • Mexican Food—she eats it at least once a week
  • Coffee
  • Her family and their support

Siefker's Typical Day
"My days are quite routine. I am dominated by my two girls in the morning with getting dressed and trying to get out of the house. Then, to work, and then girls in the evening. My house is like Disney princess explosion which is a constant battle with two little girls, but I can say it is never boring."

Advice for New Attorneys
"New attorneys should talk to those who have been involved in their community before them. Talk to the staff attorneys, law clerks, the clerks of court, and those that work in this field every day. They can make your life easier if you show them that you are willing to learn from them and respect their knowledge."
