Pro Bono Week Events

How to Get Involved During Pro Bono Week
The Lafayette Bar Foundation has organized many different events during Pro Bono Week, which has been proclaimed to take place during the week of October 22-28, 2017. Whether you are an attorney or a member of the community looking to get involved or opportunities to be educated on or receive legal aid, we encourage you to take place in one or more than one event happening this week.

Monday, October 23 - "Geaux Casual for Pro Bono"
Firms and offices are encouraged to participate in "Geaux Casual for Pro Bono," by paying $5.00 to wear jeans or go casual for the day. All proceeds go towards funding pro bono programs that take place throughout the year. If your office would like to participate, there's still time! Simply designate a new date during Pro Bono Week that your office or firm will participate.

Tuesday, October 24 - "Lawyers in Libraries" Free Legal Guidance
Time: 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM
Location: Lafayette Public Library Main Branch

This event involves both attorneys and those in the community seeking free legal guidance. If you need free legal assistance on a civil matter, you can attend Lawyers in Libraries, where you can sit with an attorney for 15 minutes. Time slots are still available. To reserve your time slot, call the Lafayette Public Library at (337) 261-5787.

Wednesday, October 25 - Free Legal Seminar: Child and Medical Clinic
Time: 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM
Lafayette Public Library Main Branch
This free legal seminar will answer questions you may have concerning child support, such as the process for modifying child support, establishing custody, and more. Space is limited, so you must call the Lafayette Bar Foundation at (337) 237-4700 to RSVP. 

Wednesday, October 25 - Protective Orders CLE
Time: 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM
Location: Lafayette Bar Association

CLE entitled "Protective Orders in Divorce and Custody" will be presented by Geralyn Siefker of the Family Justice Center. This is a free one (1.0) hour CLE credit for any attorneys willing to accept a pro bono case. You can register for the CLE here.

Thursday, October 16 - Champions of Justice Awards Breakfast
Time: 7:30 AM to 9:00 AM
Location: Petroleum Club of Lafayette

Join us for the Champions of Justice Awards Breakfast honoring volunteer attorneys who have served the public in the last year by accepting pro bono cases or being involved in pro bono programs. Friday, October 27 - Counsel on Call
Time: 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM
Location: Lafayette Bar Association Law Library

Every week, the Lafayette Bar Foundation organized Counsel on Call. For 15 minutes, you can discuss civil legal matters with an attorney for 15 minutes and they can provide you with free legal guidance. The program is operated on a first come, first serve basis and only 8 to 12 people can be seen.
