H.E.L.P. for the Homeless

On Tuesdays from 8 am to 9 am at Msgr. Segur Service Center located at 401 St. John St., Lafayette, LA 70501, a volunteer attorney and an LBA staff member are available to help homeless individuals obtain certified copies of birth certificates as substantiating documents to prove their identity in the process of replacing a lost or stolen ID.

The Homeless Experience Legal Protection program was founded in November of 2005 after hurricanes Katrina and Rita left so many desolate and in need of help. While the concept seems simple, it has a huge impact on the lives of those who are trying to find shelter and obtain jobs. Without proper identification, shelters will not allow a person to stay the night and job applications are almost impossible. The H.E.L.P. program helps to smooth out this process for people without means.

Please call Tammy DeRouen at 337-237-4700 to check for holiday closures and availability.
